Wear the ring last when dressing and take it off first at night. Keep it away from perfume, chlorine, hairspray and cleaning products. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth rather than a polishing compound, which wears the plating down. Store it in its pouch, away from harder pieces. Sterling silver will darken naturally over time; the rhodium plating slows this, and the piece can be re-plated in future if you wish.
Composition
Laboratory-grown stones are the same mineral, with the same chemical formula and the same crystal structure, as their mined counterparts. Moissanite is silicon carbide (SiC) — a different mineral, never described as diamond.
How it is grown
Our laboratory-grown corundum and spinel are grown by flame fusion (Verneuil) and crystal pulling (Czochralski). Diamonds are grown by HPHT or CVD; the growth process for your stone is stated on its IGI report. A coloured diamond's colour can arise during growth or from a post-growth treatment — where IGI's report for a stone notes indications of post-growth treatment, we state it on this page. Emerald is grown by flux or hydrothermal growth.
No fillers
Our coloured stones contain no lead glass and no other filler or bonding agent. Our emeralds are not clarity-enhanced with oil or resin.
Certificates
Laboratory-grown diamonds are issued with a grading report from IGI. A report from AGL — Antwerp Gemological Laboratory — is available for coloured stones. The report that comes with your piece is named on its product page. An order that includes a coloured-stone certificate takes 2–3 days longer to dispatch, because that certificate is issued after you order.
Finish and durability
Rhodium or 18K gold surface layer over 925 sterling silver. Both finishes have passed human sweat testing carried out by our supplier, and both are made for long-term, everyday wear. If a finish needs refreshing within two years of purchase, re-plating is free.
