Fasten the chain before you put the necklace away, so it does not tangle. Keep it away from perfume and chlorine, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Avoid polishing compounds, which wear the plating down. Lay it flat or hang it rather than coiling it tightly. Sterling silver will darken naturally over time; the plating slows this.
Composition
Laboratory-grown stones are the same mineral, with the same chemical formula and the same crystal structure, as their mined counterparts. Moissanite is silicon carbide (SiC).
How it is grown
Moissanite is grown in a laboratory. Natural moissanite is extremely rare and is not used in commercial jewellery. It is silicon carbide (SiC), crystallising in the hexagonal crystal system.
No fillers
Moissanite is a single crystal. It is not assembled or bonded, and it is not filled, oiled or clarity-enhanced. Coloured moissanite is usually produced by a metallic surface coating — a treatment; where a piece carries a coated stone, we say so on its product page, because the coating can scratch or wear.
Certificates
Every moissanite piece ships with its GRA certificate card for the stone. The card ships with your order and does not add to dispatch times.
Finish and durability
Rhodium or 18K gold surface layer over 925 sterling silver. Both finishes have passed human sweat testing carried out by our supplier, and both are made for long-term, everyday wear. If a finish needs refreshing within two years of purchase, re-plating is free.
